Obama Administration Cuts Two DeVos Car Dealerships
#1
Fox Pontiac Buick GMC dealership in Alpine Township will close as part of nationwide GM cuts

GRAND RAPIDS -- DP Fox Ventures LLC, owner of the region's largest collection of auto dealerships, appears to have the only local dealership to receive a Dear John letter from struggling automaker General Motors Corp.

Fox Pontiac Buick GMC in Alpine Township is one of 1,100 dealerships nationwide to receive a letter Friday morning indicating GM won't renew its franchise agreement when it expires October 2010.

But the rest of West Michigan's two dozen GM dealerships appeared to have dodge the bullet.

Of the 23 dealerships from Plainwell to Muskegon contacted by the Press, 18 said they didn't receive letters, four wouldn't say and two didn't return calls.

DP Fox CEO Dan DeVos also received a letter for its Charlevoix dealership. The company hopes to reverse the decision, said Diane Maher, Chief Financial Officer. The dealership employs about 30 workers.

Job losses as GM, Chrysler close dealerships

NEW YORK (AFP) — Moves by ailing carmakers Chrysler and General Motors to slash their US dealerships will cost tens of thousands of jobs, taking a heavier toll than cuts in production, analysts say.

General Motors, the largest US automaker, said Friday it would seek to eliminate nearly 40 percent of its US dealers, more than 2,300 sales outlets, by the end of 2010 as part of its reorganization to avert bankruptcy.

Chrysler, which has filed for bankruptcy protection, said Thursday it had asked the bankruptcy court to shut down 789 dealers, nearly one-fourth of its sales outlets.

For GM, the decision to close the dealerships, which employ about 50 people each, could translate into the loss of as many as 150,000 jobs -- representing a 0.2 percentage point rise in the unemployment rate, Joel Naroff at Naroff Economic Advisors said.

have you ANY evidence at all that the White House was involved in deciding which dealerships GM would "cut"?

No, I didn't think so ....

FYI, the White House and the Obama admnistration are two different entities.

The Obama administration includes the Treasury Department.

The White House does not include the Treasury Department.

Ya, I'd figure GM/Chrysler has plenty of staff whose job is to decide which dealerships are to close. How could the Obama administration have tentacles reaching that deep into the affairs of Americans with all the urgent, legitimate governmental stuff on it's plate?

And I never said that the Obama administration made the decision on "which" dealerships to close.

Where would you get that idea?

Try reading the headline.

There is nothing in the headline that states Obama's people hand-picked which dealerships to close. There is nothing in the headline that says Obama's people targeted the DeVos family.

You sure make some weird conclusions.
