I saw in the Grand Rapids papers that Pam DeVos (Rich's daughter in law married to son Dan DeVos) designed a royal wedding gown for the ceremony. She does not believe her design will be chosen by Kate Middleton, but it is interesting that she is a designer on that level.

Pam DeVos has her own line of HIGH END designs and has made dresses for many of the rich and famous. A couple of weeks ago, Jennifer Lopez was wearing one of Pam DeVos' gowns.

I thought about you, RW1, when I saw the uniform that Prince William chose to wear.
I thought that was a great touch and a really good looking uniform.

As I said on FB - Viva la republique! But there's still nothing quite like the spectacle of a royal wedding, is there? Smile

While I didn't get up way before dawn to watch - I DID catch The Kiss(es)! The ceremony and grandeur were beyond words - the USA has NOTHING to compare to something like that.

After thinking about it...
Was I wrong to think about you?
Is that uniform offensive to you? Considering history?
Or not?

Maybe I would have been better to never had said anything in the first place... Blush

Hollywood. Not that Hollywood has the sophistication and elegance of the Royals by a long shot.

But the multiple parties and *annual* awards ceremonies like the Oscars, the Golden Globes, the Grammys, are lavish and larger than life.

And the sports world. With their huge arenas, and their *annual* sporting events like the NBA Finals, the World Series, Super Bowl.

It was great to see the shamrock on his lapels - there were a lot of Irish here in Ireland that had wedding parties - because of our historical links most Irish have or had family serving in the UK forces - some of us had family killed in WW1 & WW2 - we have extended family still serving across the world with the UK forces - Most of us don't have issues with this - dam it the UK wouldn't be where it is if it wasn't for us Irish
It was a great day - what about the just wed car at the end - I'd say Harry had a hand in that.

Aw Bridgett - you know I adore you - but Hollywood is fake Tongue

When Beyonce shows up for the Grammys in a gilded carriage escorted by 100 soldiers perfectly turned-out on matching black horses - THEN I'll agree with you Wink

Smile My point was on an annual basis (not just every 30 years when there is a wedding) and multiple times a year, we see the lavishness, the celebrations, and the over-the-top spectacles here in the U.S.

But yes, as I said, the Hollywood et al are short on sophistication and elegance
Yes, I'd rather see a gilded carriage and 100 soliders on horses, than Lady Gaga's creepy transluscent egg contraption and skeletal creatures.
What...the...heck???

Oh the good ol' days when our royalty was Audrey Hepurn and Cary Grant... Confusedigh:

Yes, the Royals do give us that style that we Americans now lack...

...though this get-up was a wee bit distracting as I watched the nuptials. Big Grin
