....and the plethora of US TV programmes which are watched by the younger age groups over here and guide their speech

I remember watching My Fair Lady and having the good doctor mock the American use of English. It's so true. There are some people that I don't understand. Everyone's online making up their own language half of the time, and I hate it. Catch phrases are horrible and devalues a language.
