There should be RANDOM calls to "active" IBOs that have hit a certain pin level within the past year. i.e. anyone that's hit a 1,000 PV over the past year gets calls just to see that the LOA is complying with accreditation. That, or send secret random observers to open meetings.

I totally agree with this. Things were said from stage that we against the rules - not that I new at the time cause we were told not to bother reading the Amway rules. Having a active rep from the company would cut down on dumb stuff. After I had become inactive for a year I read the rules and was mortified......

In retrospect we did unethical things, and things that broke the rules. At the time we didn't know any better..... probably due to (1) my age, got in when I was 20 and built serious for a few years, before slowing down and eventually dropping out around 30...... (2) our upline did it, taught it and so we thought it was normal.... (3) we wanted the dream therefore were prepared to do anything for it. This of course came with the "Fact" that Amway/or LOA was thee best and only vehicle to financial success and happiness.

Our issues we small compared to what had gone on. My upline platinum, who I have upmost respect for, blocked his group from the really bad stuff. Once we had opted out of a particular upline/group the stories came out. People with garages full of stuff..... I remember purchasing 500pv to break a pin - we are on the last cleaning product now at least 10 years later! (It was a special packs including some cleaners we hardly use). This was seen as a good thing, that we were going the distance, we were committed.... Others spent years eating through their protein bars when they came out - we were all encouraged to purchase and stock up to sell..... so some put in 1000's of PV worth.

It is very easy to be brainwashed when surrounded by powerful and successful personalities. There is two sides to this coin. The first and positive is that it you change for the better by the peer pressure and environment pressure. I know that this was great for me/us. However the other side of the coin is that you get pressured into doing things you should know better about. However as both sides of the coin are present at the same time you have trouble telling the difference. You feel unease at doing the positive side as you are growing out of your comfort zone. It is the same feeling when you are doing something that is not quite right. However you assume that this is the same feeling as the positive so assume that it will work out. Then slowly things change and eventually when you step back you ask the question how could I have done that? The answer is one step at a time.

I think this pretty much sums up the issues that some LOAs, and some parts of some LOAs, have, that are so damaging. Yes to Amway's reputation, but more importantly, to people and their spirit.

Most ibos want to do the right thing. And are willing to do the right thing. But often they get led in the wrong direction by people with ulterior motives.

This is why some kind of "Ethics Training" would be helpful for ibos.

Amway's Rules of Conduct could easily be taught by an Amway employee at every major function. "These are your rights as an ibo... These are your responsibilities... These are do's... These are don'ts... Here is what you can say... Here is what you can't... These are you courses of action if your rights are being violated or it you are being asked to do something unethical or against Amway's rules... This is what will happen to you if you or your upline violate these rules."

How many ibos would have gone along with the "feagle" scheme or the "ship the products to your mom's house for fool Amway scheme" if they were given a talk like this on a regular basis?

While this is a brilliant idea - it can be simpler. I'm going to assume that if *I* can email - every IBO in the world has email also...LOL!! Amway should email a short, sweet version of the Rules (maybe a Ten Commandments sort of thing?) to every single IBO.

"Thank you for renewing your business - don't forget - these are the rules you must abide by as an IBO"

And one of my favorite Rules?? (paraphrased) You agree to help your downline build their businesses whether they participate in BSMs or not

While I understand that THIS group of folks (you Amway Talk folks) might scratch their heads at that - a decade or so ago, if an IBO didn't fully support the "system" - they possibly got shunned; or sometimes were told not to renew (or find another sponsor), if they couldn't be a "team player"
